Dressmaker is a cozy game inspired by real dressmaking.

Become a dressmaker, choose dress designs, cut out fabric and sew them all together to satisfy (or sabotage!) customers.

This prototype was initially made by Free Lives in about 3 weeks. The update had another month or two of work added to it. It has a lot of unfinished seams, and ideas that had to be left on the cutting room floor.

We are now working on a full version of this game!Wishlist here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4019220/Dressmaker/

Thank you so much to everyone for the overwhelming support so far.  If you'd like to discuss the game directly with the developers, feel free to join our Discord: https://discord.gg/tBa93Rzgj5

yayyy I’m glad to see an update! I had a lot of fun last time. Looking forward to the full release!

a couple of dresses i made! i absolutely love this prototype! only thing that made it a bit difficult was the accessories part. i wish you could zoom in/out manually, and put lace/piping back. other than that, amazing!!

so cute and fun! I hope there will be some kind of mechanic for mixing and matching fabrics being a no-no (silk and cotton?? oof). and that the accessories will add to the cute/elegant/etc stats. also hoping we have some kind of in game way to see others' creations! maybe even a dress to impress spin off/collab haha. lastly some kind of budgeting tool on the sketch pad phase because i didnt realize how expensive the ruffle skirt was going to be!

10/10, wonderful and very entertaining. instantly wishlisted!

i did find one bug though; if you start cutting a fabric and then exit out, coming back will leave the scissor model cutting through the table and it doesn't go away. it's visible in the drafting and sewing menu, and though it sort of glitches out the fabric it was cutting, it isn't gamebreaking and was actually really funny.

overall, incredible! very cute and a joy, even though some of the sewing patterns were a bit grueling, i enjoyed it immensely.

10/10 game already, can't wait for the full thing to come out! I've always wanted a fashion game like this and having a free-mode where we can do wtv we want without worrying about money or materials in the full game would only make this better!

I wishlisted this on steam and will be playing the moment it comes out :D

i just played and omg!!! its so fun and cozy, i skip the tutor so my first dress is so bad and rose hated it ;__; but then i understand it easily, even though i was struggling alot when i want to put accesories on the dress, sometimes theres some angles of the dress that i couldnt reach so the accesories stuck only on the top :'( i really hope maybe there would be a way to make this part easier such i really like to add alot of accesories! love the game<33

will you be releasing the april tea update or will it come with the full game?

(+2)

Do you know when will be the full release?

Planned for this year

so I LOVE this game, but I wish there was a letter you could press on the keyboard to zoom in because I don't rlly like using my mouse that much. But great game!!

Hi, I'm a trans in closet in my country, thank you for your game make me can do the cloth what I would like to wear, it's help me a lot in depression.

(+1)

so pretty :)

1st and 4th ones are very pretty !!

the game is extremely laggy at the sewing part

I get that its a demo, but please fix the sewing part in the final game. it would be a drag if the controls are wonky because the rest of the section of the game is fantastic up until the sewing part

Its not a demo. Its a prototype.

no puedo encontrar las tijeras algún consejo?

(+1)

Oh no! It might be the aspect ratio, where you may have to force the game to run in 16:9.

If you're on Windows, you can try running the game with command line parameters, for example:

dressmaker.exe -screen-height 1920 -screen-width 1080

omggggg this game is sooo goatedddd!!!! I lovee itttttt! I absolutety would play this game once it is done and available on steam! One flaw of it is the tutorial doesn't mention how to keep the score under control so i struggle to tailor a dress that fits the customers' vision and request, but other than that, the demo was great!!!!! know that im waiting and totally can't wait for the full game to be completed!!!! (I'm definitetly not dying to play this game :o)

The game is definitely gonna be FIREEEE!!!!!!!

Also a note from a person who doesn't really know how to tailor, i advise for better instruction. but since this is a demo , i can totally see hoe much better the actual game would be already!!! CANT WAITTTT!!!!!!

(+2)(-1)

This was so fun to play through!! I absolutely adore the concept and can't wait for the full game to come out!! My only issues I encountered was when laying down the piping or lace it would easily glitch out but other than that really easy to get the hang of!

Here are some of the dresses I made :3

(+2)

I have been loving this game!! Here's a few screenshots of dresses I made!!

I also have a bug where a part of one of my dresses is missing, even after restarting the game, idk why that happened lol, but I'm defo buying this when it's out!! (also yall should add different coloured lace, or maybe a colour picker type thing for lace designs, if ya can! :p TY!)

gongeous!

This game is super cute

i loveee this game really cozy! i can't wait for it to be finished

As someone who loves fashion and grew up with seamstresses in my family, the whole concept of clothes making has always fascinated me. I really love the idea behind Dressmaker, the attention to detail and the creativity involved are amazing!

I’d be thrilled to help translate it into European Portuguese if that could ever be useful, as I’d love to contribute to a project I genuinely enjoy.

i looove this game! it has vibes of my childhood games and just makes me feel so cosy and nostalgic🥹 it is a bit buggy (as the ribbons/lace placing on the dress or that sometimes colors doesn´t save on the draft when you go to cutting board afterwards or that sometimes scissors don´t work), but overall it´s just such a great warm expirience c:
i wishlisted the game and wish you good luck in development!!
aand here are some of my dresses :3

Wanna preface this comment by saying I'm addicted to this game and will be violently recommending it to everyone I know. This game is EVERYTHING to me, and I hope reporting this bug helps with the development. I want to make fan art when I have the time because the three characters I've met so far are lovely.

BUG FOUND: My sibling arranged three pieces over this 4.02m space, and while trying to rearrange them, clicked back. When she returned to the fabric cutter, the two other pieces were gone, the scissors wouldn't cut the remaining piece, and we couldn't drag it back to the right bar. A simple save & quit fixed the issue, but removed the pinned fabric pieces on the mannequin.

I love this game so much please keep on working on a full version!

(+1)

This is such a cool concept for a  game that is also well executed. Especially for one that hasn't been worked on for very long. I looking forward to seeing the full version when it comes out!

(1 edit)
  • As a clothes maker myself, I'm obsessed!! Can't wait to play the full version once it's out!
  • The game of course still needs some work, there's nothing much I can add that hasn't already been said down bellow but as the prototype you did great job and it can definetely be turned into an incredible game
  • Thing that to me was the biggest flaw is the way zoom works when adding details, same as, when rotating it would be very helpful to be able to view the dress from other angles rather than just rotating the manequinn left-right

Really enjoyed playing the prototype and will defiently purchase the game once the final version is released on Steam. I'd love the ability to be able to name our own 'creations' in the sewing journal, example 'The Eurydice dress' etc. I hope there will be more dress designs and patterns too :)

this game looks really fun, but i cant open it. every time i try, i receive a prompt that says,

"Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."

if anyone has found a way to bypass this SAFELY, please let me know. i am very new to games on itch.io and i worry about the safety and credibility of the downloads.

I think that there's a "More info" link on the SmartScreen popup, where you can choose "Run anyway".

This happens to apps that haven't been submitted to Microsoft for review, and are from unknown publishers (like us).

It's completely fair not to want to download and run software from someone you don't know though. The Steam version shouldn't have these issues when it comes out later this year, so you can wait until then if you like.

Thank you so much for letting me know. I was a tad nervous when I saw the notice. Im super excited for Dressmaker to come out on Steam ☺️

(+2)

I love it! I hope the steam release has a "creative mode" because i genuinely could sit here making one million dresses forever, forget the customers these are for meeeeeeeeee i want morrreeee <3

(+3)

this game is my now favourite game, i was so immersed in the sewing and creating dresses for people that i had stayed up all night playing it without even realizing

something i would like in this game is an undo button or maybe a 'restart this part' instead of having to restart the whole game. As much as i love the game i find it ashame when i mess up and a not able to undo and have to play the whole game again. But other than that this game is amazing and i will be buying it on steam the second it releases :)

Thank you for playing!

Can you tell us which parts you wished you could undo? You can recut fabric by using the previously cut out fabric as your guide. We may look at adding a seam ripper to undo sewing.

Hello, thank you for reading my review.

I wish there were stages for each character, for instance you run out of money buying fabric and change your mind about the look, maybe also a back button for ribbons and accessories? I have made that mistake a couple playing the game and have noticed that if you want to restart it simply restarts the game, other than that I would say I love the game and i’m excited for the release date

(+2)

Absolutely love this game and can't wait for the steam release! I would love to see more accessories. As another review mentioned, I would also like either a mechanism to know how much the dress will cost, or a way to restart a dress and start from scratch with your money returned. If you accidentally plan a design you unknowingly don't have the funds for, you're basically stuck when you run out of fabric. I ran into this issue and just decided to restart the game and try again. Regardless, such a fun game!

(1 edit)

Really fun game!

I really like the customization options and the characters are fun.

I would like to see more accessory options and the ability to undo lace/trim. It's also kind of hard to get it in specific places.

After playing for several dozen more hours(this is a really fun game) I have a few more suggestions!

A way to quickly get lace around the hem or around the edge of sleeves would be very helpful. At the moment, trying to get around the edges of shorter sleeves is pretty buggy and has a lot of clipping issues.

I would love to be able to use the coloring function to add the patterns to the sketch.

Skirt 6 takes about 25-30 meters of fabric if you aren't squeezing every last ounce of space out with the patterns. While it is a very beautiful skirt, I think a skirt with similar volume or something similar that requires less fabric would be good.

Some skirts have a waistband and some don't. I really like the waistbands and would like to be able to add them to some of the simpler skirts. Maybe a wider ribbon could be used to add that without changing the patterns?

None of the black fabrics are really all that dark. This is especially noticeable when paired with the black lace, which is several shades darker. At the moment, the Dark Gray Cotton, the Onyx Black Silk, and the Ink Black Wool are all basically the same color.

The lighting on the mannequin is really harsh at the top. Using a light fabric for a collar makes that area really bright and kinda hard to see.

I love this game a lot and I'm super excited to see more!

(+2)

Most recent piece, and I freaking LOVE this game. Def bought it, will def be looking out on steam!! :D

(+4)

I love this game omg, i wish to see more in the future :3

It has pretty good mechanics but i would like to change the dress while making it and not having to delete it all and start over, even more when i just want to change only the skirt or something. Aside from that its awesome, i could (and already have) spend hours playing this.

Here are some designs ive made

(+1)

Really nice and relaxing game! I have one note though: it would be nice to know more or less how much in total we will spend before buying the fabric, like after making the sketch. Because at the 3rd dress I didn't calculate good and now i can't finish this prototype of the game :C I would've loved to had an undo button OR at least (I really hope you add it) a way to earn more money --> the character JUST opened the boutique so it's natural to not have enough money, i'd love to be able to make like some chores to earn more money TT (like in a minigame form). Other than that I really liked the game, hope you will make it even better than it already is <3 Happy new year!

Thank you for the suggestion! We've added a fabric usage estimator in the sketchbook so you don't get an unwelcome surprise. (But I don't think we'll be updating the itch build any more until the game's done.)

We also have some ideas for earning extra money, but nothing concrete there yet.
